Does the B in BBC stand for Bigot?

BBC, iainlee, politics

I’ve been a fan of talk radio for many years. I enjoy listening to all kinds of talk radio ranging from Political to Theatrical, from Religious to Sports. I regularly drive long road trips and listening to an engaging conversation on the radio keeps my gray matter buzzing. Even when I disagree with someones point of view, it’s always interesting to hear other peoples opinions.

Mister Iain Lee is an English radio presenter who excels at this art form 😉 Sometimes he makes me laugh out loud, sometimes I disagree with him and find myself yelling at the radio and at other times I’ve got home and just sat in the car for 20 minutes to listen to the end of the show. For the last few months I’ve been listening to Iain Lee’s podcasts from BBC Three Counties Radio…

So, I was surprised to see his name plastered all over Twitter yesterday and found out that the BBC has sacked him or maybe he quit lets just say they have parted ways after he was forced to apologize for an interview he hosted.

What was his grand mistake?

He asked someone with bigoted views on homosexuality if they realised their views were bigoted!

Bbc bigot

I commented on the Iain Lee page on Facebook:

Dictionary definition of BIGOT:

big·ot [ˈbiɡət/ ]
noun
a person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions.
synonyms: chauvinist, partisan, sectarian;

If you are homophobic whether its for religious or any other reason – you are a bigot. That’s a fact. If you dont like the word then… sorry but thats tough. Iain was using the English language correctly. Our language evolves but the mindset of bigots doesn’t. Why on earth did Iain Lee have to apologize for using the correct word to define this woman’s beliefs? Losing his job over it? Ridiculous.

“Do you support Bigotry?”

This is the interview that started all this nonsense. However many times I listen to this I cannot see the problem. Being intolerant of people with a different view on sexuality is “bigoted”. That’s exactly what the word means, FFS!

I’m not gay. I’m not Religious. I’m not a politician. I’m not a vegetarian either, but I have personal views on all those things. However, I do not try to force my viewpoints on any other people. What you do in the privacy of your home is completely up to you. Live and Let live.

Me.

I wish some people could recognize their own behavior as bigoted when it is, clearly, bigoted.

There is now a petition running on CHANGE.ORG to reinstate Iain https://www.change.org/p/bbc-bring-iain-lee-back-to-bbc-3cr even though I doubt he would want to be?

NOTE: Whoever created that change.org petition stole my comment as the description for the petition. #feelsospecial

I like some DJ’s on this side of the pond I occasionally chuckle at Howard Stern, Danny Bonaduce and Opie and Anthony (before their unfortunate split). The conspiracy theory crowd make me smile, and then I get all twitch and start believing Alex Jones and Infowars. Back in England I love to agree and then disagree violently with Iain Lee, John Gaunt and (back in the day) James Whale.

Iain Lee is another one of my favorite radio show presenters. He can be an opinionated liberal luvvy – but thats why I listen to him to get annoyed at the radio 🙂 I’ve listened to him on LBC, Absolute, BBC Three Counties and now Talk Radio UK. I recently enjoyed his freelance podcast show Down the Rabbit Hole
