AS400 QMQRY – Query Management Queries

IBM i , Programming , SQL

So, I was emailed the following hints and tips document discussing the ubiquitous Query Management Query object type on the IBM Power Server (the artist formerly known as AS400). It’s useful to refer to so, here it is: QMQRY – QUery Management Query A SOURCE FILE FOR YOUR QUERY The key to making a query […]

PWMTR32V.DLL side by side configuration problem error during windows vista start boot up

IBM i

Just did a clean in install of Windows XP Pro followed by an immediate upgrade to Vista… yes I know its a pain…. but I only have an upgrade disc.

After sitting through hours worth of service packs, hotfixes and various other massively packaged Microsoft downloads i eventually got my trusty Ibm Lenovo Thinkpad Z60T to a stage where it’s more or less working… now its on to the next stage… Thinkpad bits.
Mainly I like the fingerprint scanner… it’s great just to power up, swipe and be logged in.

So, this time i downloaded the Lenovo System Updater…

What happened to Projex400?

IBM i

PROJEX/400 – The Developers Freeware Toolkit for the IBM AS400 iSeries evolved over time from the System/38 through iseries machines. I stopped developing it during 2002, but left the installer and some source code stagnating in a dark and dingy corner of the website. Doing a little spring clean a while back, thinking that it […]

Health and Safety in the English Navy

Life

Imagine the scene. all those years ago, aboard HMS Victory:-

Nelson: "Order the signal, Hardy."

Hardy: "Aye, aye sir!"

Nelson: "Hold on, that’s not what I dictated to Flags. What’s the meaning of this?"

Hardy: "Sorry, sir?"

Nelson (reading aloud): ‘England expects every person to do his or her duty, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religious persuasion or disability.’ What heathen gobbledegook is this?"

Hardy: "Admiralty policy, I’m afraid, sir. We’re an equal opportunities employer now. We had the devil’s own job getting ‘England’ past the censors, lest it be considered racist."

Nelson: "Gadzooks, Hardy. Hand me my pipe and tobacco."

another snippet from an old document I found in a dim dark and hazy corner of an even older HDD… The SDLC System Development Life Cycle… rather than let it disintegrate, here it is migrating to the web just in the (extreme) off chance that it may be useful to someone out there. Hey.. if […]

Life

My latest website project – the re-branding and relaunch of the Bullworker Europe website has taken it’s most significant step forward today: BULLWORKER [EUROPE] is alive! 2017 UPDATE – Wow! Was this really 12 years ago! How time flies. Either way, Bullworker Europe was very successful and ended up being sold and re-branded. But I’m […]

The AS400 is dead – long live the IBM iSeries

AS400 , IBM i , iSeries

The long-rumored and much-debated rebranding of IBM’s disparate server lines, known under the code-name Mach1, was announced on October 3, just a few weeks before the fall COMMON midrange trade show in Baltimore. The AS/400 is henceforth known as the iSeries 400, not the I/500, as had been widely reported. But there’s a lot more to Mach1 than renaming the AS/400. For the next several months, IBM is going to be blitzing the media and its customer base in an attempt to establish a new, unifying brand identity for its server lines, as well as new subbrand identities for the machines that used to be called AS/400s, S/390s, RS/6000s, Netfinities, and NUMA-Qs.
