Add Custom Domain to Protonmail

PROTON, email

Let’s add my custom domain to my new Proton Email

This will let my new Protonmail account send and receive emails as nick@nicklitten.com, as well as the default protonmail.com email address:

The first thing we will need to do is is define the domain name we will be using (in my case its nicklitten.com) and then add a TXT record to that domain – this will be used to verify domain ownership.

Log in to your Proton Mail account and select Settings → Go to settings → Proton Mail → Domain names → Add domain.

Enter your domain name and click Next.

You will be asked to re-enter your Proton password for security reasons:

In the Verify tab, your Host Name (@) and TXT verification record are shown to the right of your newly added domain:

Click the COPY link to copy the Value / Data / Points value (the protonmail-verification=blah-blah).

Now, in a new tab login to your DOMAIN MANAGER and use the DNS SETTINGS to add that TXT entry to your DNS.

Your control panel will look different to mine but you can add it similar to mine:

In the Verify tab, your Host Name (@) and TXT verification record are shown to the right of your newly added domain.

Now click NEXT to verify you own this domain…

This took hours to propogate on mine… so dont worry if it says “invalid” just go and grab a nice cup of tea, go outside into the sunshine and chill for a while enjoying the view. When you get too anxious, because you know your email might be offline, rush inside (careful not to spill that tea) and click VERIFY again and when it goes green – you can follow the prompts and add the other values.

If the MX, SPF, DCIM entries are a little daunting you can watch this very boring video:

And thats it!

Welcome to ProtonMail
