Preparation Notices: Expect 30 – 45 minutes for per installation.
Installation requires Administrator permissions and a computer reboot(s). If MS Office, Office360 or other products are required, it is recommended that all applications be installed before Client Access is installed.
If this is an IBM Client Access upgrade, the installation will attempt to un-install any previous versions. Should a failure occur, cancel the installation and manually un-install previous versions via the Control Panel.
You will be required to reboot the PC or the server; possibly more than once.
Install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio if required. You will receive a message during the installation if you have to install. You can run both the 64 & 32 bit versions if necessary. Here are the installation instructions.
- For 32-bit run vcredist_x86.exe
- For 64-bit run vcredist_x64.exe
- For 64-bit iTanium run vcredist_xIA64.exe
The following screen appears. Click Run.

Accept the license and click Yes.

The patch installs. When completed, the window closes.

Install IBM System i Access for Windows
Run the following application program: cwblaunch
The installation program determines the best version (32 or 64 bit) for the device you are installing on.
The following screen appears. Click OK.

Click the radio button to Accept the License & click Next.

Click Next.

Select primary language:

Select the type of IBM CLIENT ACCESS you want to install.
Most users will have the bottom option PC5250 for screen access only.
Most IT Technical Users will need the COMPLETE option which includes the ISERIES NAVIGATOR and more
So, lets do the COMPLETE and click Next.


System i Access for Windows installs.

The installation completes. Click Finish.

Save any work and Close all applications. Click Yes to restart the computer.

After reboot, uncheck Show this Welcome when I restart my computer and close the window.

Install the latest IBM patch included in the Patches folder.
The fix is typically names SIxxxxx_32 where 32 is for 32 bit installations or SIxxxxx_64a where 64 is for 64 bit installations.
Run the appropriate fix and accept the defaults. You may be asked to reboot the PC or server once again.
