Coast Guard Graduation, Cape May (Yankee-198 August 28th 2020)
I don’t often cry… but I certainly had the Dads Damp Eye Syndrome watching my eldest boy, Nathan, graduate from the US Coast Guard boot camp today.
With Covid/19 rocking the world – this is the first time us parents were unable to attend the graduation ceremony for our young Coasties.
These young men and women have all been through stringent quarantine procedures before embarking on their two month beasting at Cape May Coast Guard Bootcamp.
Much as I would have loved to be their physically – the Coast Guard did a great job of broadcasting the graduation live on Facebook.
I wasn’t too sure if the Facebook stream would stay online, so I recorded a screencast for us to watch in the future:
With Nate being awarded the Honor Graduate position it makes me burst with pride… and also smile because it meant he was the last one out… as usual 😉
I’m jealous of the adventure this young Seaman is embarking on.
Nate – if you’re reading this on your long chilly deployment with the Antarctic ice cutter Polar Star (you are still a lunatic for choosing that posting!) I just want to say again how proud I am of you. Enjoy this adventure. You are certainly going the road less travelled and I, we, can’t wait to see you once you get a chance to visit home.
Proud #Coastie Dad
Congratulations!!!
Thanks Claudio – one super proud Dad here 😉
