From RPG2 to RPG3

RPG3 (also known as RPG III) is a version of the RPG programming language first published on the IBM System/38. When running on the new AS/400 machines, it was frequently called RPG/400 but an official upgraded version (RPG IV) arrived in 1994.

In 2001 RPG was again updated to remove a number of column restrictions. RPG continues to be upgraded on a regular basis.
