RPG4 or RPG400 - the last of the great column-based beasts
With RPG/4 (running on the AS/400 and iSeries machines) the language has now evolved ever further. Small differences like file/field names increasing to 10 character and lots of new operation codes (opcodes) being added.
Today, in 2020, we are working with the grandson of this same language, still called RPG/4 but it is now completely free format -- it feels much like javascript. RPG has evolved so greatly from the old column based days of the AS400 I am going to call this old style RPG/400 so you know what I am talking about:
